Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science and Technology
A voice for the underdog
The South African public education system faces serious challenges.
Kutlwanong is an NGO that seeks to address this holistically, plugging resources and capacity where it matters.
The NGO has a solid track record over its 15 year existence, but has been a shy communicator. To attract corporate funding, as a means to expand their work, we were tasked with improving their communication.
Strategy
We wanted to seperate Kutlwanong from its competitors.
With a 15 yr history, our aim was to communicate the depth of its work and its youth impact in the poorest townships nationally.
Using data to communicate scale.
And stories to communicate depth.
We developed brand and digital tools to better position the NGO and communicate its track record both in terms of statistics and human interest stories. We highlighted the NGO’s role in catapulting township youth into professional careers – through the stories of its alumni.
Enabling the NGO to focus on what matters – accelerating the quantity and quality of STEM performance across South Africa.
Branding
We focused on scale, depth and cumulative impact.
How did a high school STEM programme help township kids to excel?
How many students Maths and Science performance had it boosted in 15 years?
We researched each alumni story profiling impact beyond Kutlwanong’s programmes, highlighting how a good grounding at a high school level enabled students to further their education and access professional careers.
